Election of Officers
3 August 2012
The Mendocino Coast Sports Foundation held its annual election of directors and officers at its monthly meeting on July 18. Elected to serve as President was Madeleine Melo; Vice President Rich Pyorre; Secretary John Andersen and Treasurer Joe Sutphin. Other board members re-elected for a two year term were: Mike Galliani, Brad Gardner and Shirley Johnson. Sean Hackley was elected as a new board member and replaces Jennifer Bosma.
The board acknowledged Jennifer Bosma for her hard work and tenure on the board. During the meeting the construction of the stadium was discussed and it was decided that the seats for the latest poured concrete area will be installed, but concrete for the remaining one and a half sections will be put off until next summer. This will allow time to raise enough money to complete the seating area rather than do a partial section. Although there is enough money to do a concrete pour for part of the area it was noted that doing a partial section would require almost as much preparation work as it would to complete the seating area. Thus it was decided to wait until all of the seating area could be done at one time and save considerable preparation costs.
It was also discussed at the meeting about the installation of a large rock at the entrance of the stadium honoring Virgil Nelson and Jere Melo who were instrumental in the construction of Timberwolf Stadium. A unique pit was located on Mendocino Redwood Company (MRC) property where a suitable rock was located. A log loader was moved to the location thanks to Cecil Matthews Logging and the rock was loaded on to a large trailer. This was brought to the stadium by MRC personnel. To get the rock into position at the stadium, Anderson Logging brought a log loader to the stadium and set the rock into place. In the coming weeks, concrete will be poured around the base of this rock and The Sign Shop will be working on installing two bronze plaques honoring Virgil and Jere. Many thanks are in order to Cecil Matthews Logging, Anderson Logging, MRC, and Rick Sacks of The Sign Shop for their time and donation of equipment to make this possible. This is just another example of the community spirit making this project so exemplary.
